THE WARD SYSTEM.
ADOPTED BY THE LOCAL ROADS BOARD
Great Southern Herald
25 June, 1904
For a long time past the question of dividing the local Roads District Board into wards has received much consideration, and at the monthly meeting of the Board on Saturday afternoon Mr E. R. Bell moved:
“That the Katanning Roads Board District be divided into wards in accordance with the notice appearing in the Government Gazette, wards and members to be as follow:
Central Ward, two members; East, two; West, two; North, three.
Mr A. Prosser seconded, and Mr Garstone supported the motion.
Mr Mouritz moved an amendment, ”That the matter be postponed.”
This lapsed for want of a seconder and the motion was carried.
EXTENSION OF AUSTRAL TERRACE.
Great Southern Herald
25 June, 1904
The following letter was read at the meeting of the Katanning Roads Board on Saturday last from the Hon. E. H. Piesse, M.L.A.:
I have for some time past been endeavouring to get Austral Terrace, in the township of Katanning. extended in the southerly direction so as to connect with Bokarup Street crossing and am pleased to say I have been successful in getting the Commissioner of Railways to purchase sufficient land from lot 42b from the Union Bank.
To enable this street to be further continued, I have given the portion of lots 44 and 45, but with the stipulation that permission be granted to cross the proposed new road with the railway siding. In the event of my requiring same, I find from the Commissioner that this is a matter for your Board to decide, and I now wish to know, if this land is given for the purpose named, and which I understand will be placed under the control of your Board, will you grant me the necessary permission to cross from the railway yards to lots 44 and 45?
I feel that you will have no objection to this, especially as 1 am giving the land, and I am sure your Board will admit that when this street is produced as suggested by me, a great improvement will have been made, both for the convenience of those who require access to the new goods sheds and the public generally, and will further improve the appearance of the township.
It was decided to grant Mr Piesse’s request, Mr E. K. Bell being the only dissentient.
