The death of an old and respected resident of Katanning, in the person of Mrs. Hannah Mary Rogers, wife of Mr. W. J. Rogers, occurred on May 13 at the advanced age of 80 years. For the past three months Mrs. Rogers had been an inmate of the Katanning Hospital, where she had been shown every kindness and attention by Dr. Pope and members of the staff.

Born in Perth, Scotland, on December 9, 1860, Mrs. Rogers came to Australia 51 years ago with her husband and two sons. Their five daughters were born in Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers celebrated their Golden Wedding five years ago, on April 24, 1936.
Mrs. Rogers was a regular attender and loyal supporter of the Baptist Church, in which she was held in high esteem. She also subscribed to many and varied charitable organisations during her lifetime and in her will left bequests to the Braille Rest Home for the Blind. Dr. Barnado’s Homes, China Inland Mission, British and Foreign Bible Society, Baptist Home and Foreign Missions.
Mrs. Rogers maintained to the end regular and close correspondence with relatives and friends of her girlhood in the old country and in America.
The funeral, which took place on Thursday morning at 10 o’clock, was of a private nature at the request of the deceased and was attended only by members of the family. The Rev. J. Wilson Brown officiated at the graveside, and in a few well-chosen words expressed sentiments on the consistent life and example of Mrs Rogers as a wife, mother and Christian, while extending sympathy to the bereaved.
The pall bearers were Messrs. Peter Hoghton, A. Benger, A. Thomson, W. Knaggs, Walter Mullineaux and Stan Curnow, all members of Rogers Ltd. staff.
Mrs. Rogers leaves a husband and grown-up family of one son and five daughters, also fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two of her grandsons are serving with the A.I.F. abroad.
Floral tributes, telegrams and other expressions of sympathy were received from a wide circle of relatives and friends.
