PROPOSED ABOLITION OF FLOGGING.
Melbourne, June 30.
The Attorney-General (Mr. Eggleston) told the Trades Hail Council deputation that in face of official advice he had before him, as to the efficiency of flogging as a deterrent of crime, he could not recommend the abolition. The deputation argued that flogging was a brutalising non-deterrent.
